The Guild

Who are we?

Established in 1973, the Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Guild of Ontario, Inc. (referred to as “The Guild”) is a not-for-profit trade organization representing the interests of unionized terrazzo, tile and natural stone employers in Ontario.

The Guild’s main role is labour relations. It is the negotiating body for all unionized terrazzo, tile and marble trade contractors, of all sizes, in the ICI (Industrial- Commercial- Institutional) and Residential construction sectors of Ontario.

Other Key Mandates

  • Supports the proven expertise and competitiveness of its contractor firms through marketing and communications initiatives and market reports.
  • Keeps members informed of relevant industry information for continuous improvement of business methods, trade practices, innovation and productivity.
  • Promotes the use of natural hardsurface materials in the ICI and Residential construction sectors.
  • Studies and implements the development of codes, regulations and specifications for the hardsurface industry.

Through participation in major construction industry organizations, the Guild is actively involved in helping to find solutions for common challenges facing its members today.

Structure

The affairs of The Guild are controlled by a Board of Directors comprised of unionized trade contractor members. Labour Relations and Negotiations are handled by the Executive Director in conjunction with the Chairman and members of the Negotiating/Labour Relations Committee. Operations are managed by the Guild’s Manager.

Members participate as elected members on various committees including Finance and Negotiating/Labour Relations. The Guild also represents its signatory members and non-members on local and provincial Pension, Benefit and Dental Funds and a Vacation Pay Trust Fund.

The Trade School

The Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Trade School Inc. (TTMTS) is a certified apprenticeship educational institution started by TTMGO in 1990. The Trade School today is managed by TTMGO and supported, both financially and materially, by the Guild’s signatory employers, the Brick and Allied Craft Union of Canada (BACU/OPC), and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

It represents an investment in the future of the terrazzo, tile and marble trade. TTMTS is the training leader for hard surface flooring in Ontario.
